VERULAM Hindu Cultural Group held a Diwali celebration recently with bhajans and songs, amongst others, rendered to a packed Mountview Civic Hall.

Meals were provided and hampers distributed to the many needy who gathered.

Guest speaker at the event, MF leader, Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi highlighted the practicality of the festival of lights.

Thakur-Rajbansi spoke on the importance of understanding gender roles according to the vedic teachings of the Ramayan. She urged all men and boys to follow in the footsteps of Lord Sri Ram, in terms of how a wife, parents, siblings, animals, teachers and the community must be treated.

“He was mature, responsible, caring, respectable, well versed in vedic teachings and understood his different roles clearly. As a leader, he proved to us, that with good governance there will be peace, harmony, prosperity and progress in a country,” said Thakur-Rajbasni.

Thakur-Rajbansi said in during this festive period people need your care and share whatever they have with neighbours, friends and family.

“Pets need to be protected from fireworks and children need to be guided when bursting fireworks,” said Thakur-Rajbansi
