RESIDENTS and councillors gathered to clean a stream in Amanzimnayam, Tongaat recently. The intention was to keep the area of Tongaat beautiful and encourage residents to be proactive in cleaning their areas.

Veena Rajyah spearheaded the campaign under the theme “Fools come together to clean up Tongaat”.

The members collected refuse from the stream and put it into plastic bags.
“We ask Tongaat residents to act and motivate others to join us in our attempt to keep our city superb. We have the resources and we would like to take this initiative to other parts of Tongaat,” said Rajyah.

Ward councillor Dolly Munien and Ward 58 councillor Geoff Pullan took part in the clean up.

“It’s important that we, as society, clean the environment because litter is everywhere. We need to encourage others to join us in participating in clean-up campaigns and I was impressed to see the youth participating in the clean up,” said Pullan.
