THE 47th running of the world’s most beautiful ultra marathon saw 11 000 ultra marathon runners and 16 000 half marathon runners set off on a fabulous morning blessed with a fine drizzle and cool running conditions. The marathon began in Newlands Main Road and snaked through Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, over the tough yet scenic Chapmans Peak, to Hout Bay and over the treacherous Constantia Nek and to the finish at the University of Cape Town.

The race attracted a large international contingent with throngs of local participants with differing aspirations.

The race to beat final cut-off is a celebration of the human spirit as runners teamed up helping each other as ecstasy took control of their emotions as they crossed the finish line.

Checkout Verulam Falcons were led by a superlative performance by Benson Masuku who finished a shade outside 5 hours.

He was followed by spirited performance by Vikash Singh as he comfortably finished the race in a commendable the of 5:29.

He was followed by a fabulous personal best time of 6:18 by Cindeera Padavattan who finished her 4th ultra marathon. Seventy-year-old Amras Moodley posted an impressive performance completing his 14th ultra marathon. Logan Pillai completed his 18th ultra and Yunus Doba successful negotiated his 14th 56 km.

Team Falcons were well seconded by Chairperson Joyce Moonsamy; Rogani Moodley; Lorraine Dhanpal and Dan Moonsamy at the half way mark.
