Fight over ownership of community centre goes on

2017-03-16 06:02

WATERLOO residents want an office at the Waterloo Community Centre for community use, however former ward councillor, Mxolisi Ndzimbomvu has already moved into it, and a fight about this has ensued.

Residents now demand answers in a memorandum sent to the office of eThekwini speaker, William Mapena as to how this is possible.

A representative from the office of the speaker, Desmond Myeza promised residents that the speaker will respond to their memorandum within two weeks.

A resident in the area Vusi Khwela said: “We received a report from the ward councillor that the speaker was unable to meet our demands.

“We were told that the speaker said it will not be possible for him to get rid of the people occupying the centre as they had applied in advance.”

Another resident, Tholinhlanhla Mthinyane said: “We only need one office to use not the entire centre. There is no way forward because the speaker seems to have failed us.

“We are going to meet with the residents and pave a way forward.”
