First ever Tongaat beach festival

2016-12-15 06:01

THAMUJI productions in association with Ikabawo Entertainment will host the inaugural Tongaat Beach Festival on 18 December at Casuarina Beach (Tongaat Beach) in Tongaat.

The festival, which is aimed at promoting the sport and recreational engagement and heritage preservation, by the youth in particular, will kick off from 9am up until the sunset at 6pm.

The activities will include indigenous games such as inqgathu, ukugenda and umlabalaba as well as other activities such as beach soccer and volley ball.

The winners from these above listed indigenous games will receive trophies. Additionally, there will be a fine art and photography exhibition.

Children will be catered for too as there will be a safe kid’s entertainment section.

The locals will be kept entertained by Afrosoul, Museeq IQ, Tzozo, DJ Happygal, Junior De Rocker, Waya 77, Kepza, Hyena Blues, Imfene, Pacman, Dj Masaladi, Lindokuhle theatre group and Skandalas.

The programme directors of the day will be Kay Sibiya, Khaya Dladla, Thandeka Zulu, and Vee Mthembu.

The founder of the festival, Thandeka Zulu, who was made popular by the SABC telenovella, Uzalo, playing the character of ‘Nombuso’, stated that she felt the need to give back to her community by uplifting the local youth through arts and sports.

“As a young and successful woman from Tongaat my intention is to encourage the local youth to involve themselves in sports and strive to be successful in the entertainment fraternity. If I could do it, they can do it too,” said Thandeka Zulu.

She said this festival will create jobs for the local people. as well.

“I will personally share with the emerging local artists and performers, my experiences as an actress and artist. I will briefly equip them with some of the most important areas that will assist them to succeed in the entertainment sector.”

The management of the co-founding company, Ikabawo Entertainment, clearly states that this festival seeks to unearth and develop the raw talent in Tongaat especially after realising that the community and the neighbouring areas are sadly left unattended.

“It is our mandate to unearth and polish the raw talent in our societies. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sports and Recreation and EThekwini Municipality [Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit] have happily agreed to assist us to accomplish this dream,” said Sabelo Ngema.
