VERULAM resident Roy Govender jetted off to India on 14 December where he will climb one of the highest mountains on earth, Mount Everest. Govender’s purpose is to embark on this journey is to raise funds for the Verulam Regional Hospice.

Govender, who is the owner of a local grading and soil removal company, left the country after a goodwill send off function held at the hospice on 12 December.

The hospice said in a statement: “The board of management wished him a safe and smooth climb on his very challenging feat. [Govender] together with other 10 climbers were expected to commence the climb on Mount Everest on 16 December.”

Chairperson of the Verulam Regional hospice Professor Chandru Kistan appealed to the members of the public to support the fund raising drive by pledging a sum of money at this festival time of the year.
