THE house of a murder suspect, who killed a man in Zwelisha, Verulam last Saturday, June 17, was vandalised and her furniture set alight by angry Zwelisha residents, who were baying for her blood.

The suspect, whose name is
being withheld until she appears in court, was at her friend’s place socialising with the deceased and other residents when a fight ensued.

According to the residents, the two had an altercation.

A woman who did not want to be named said: “She [suspect] took a kitchen knife that was in the house and stabbed the deceased once in his chest. We are still in shock and hope the court gives her harsh punishment.”

Police spokesperson in Verulam Captain Mark Prakasim said the deceased was stabbed in his chest and died before paramedics arrived.

“We received a call from a member of the public reporting the incident.

“When police arrived at the scene, they found the body of the deceased on the road.

“The suspect handed herself over to the police.

“She was charged with [alleged] murder.”

When the Weekly arrived at the suspect’s house in Zwelisha on Tuesday, the remains of a fridge, TV and other items could be seen on the side of the road.

“She will be detained at the SAPS Verulam cells until she appears in court.

“Members of the public must refrain from taking law into their hands.

“Burning the suspect’s goods was uncalled for and we condemn such behaviour.”

The suspect is to appear at the Verulam Magistrate’s Court for murder this week.
