SAPS eThekwini Outer North Cluster in conjunction with schools from Verulam, Tongaat, Durban North and Phoenix celebrated Youth Month at the Virginia Sports Ground on June 28.

The theme of the day was “Working together towards youth development and a drug free South Africa”.

The event started with a march and motorcade from Kensington Shopping Mall to Virginia Sports Ground. The day was filled with interactive fun and games bringing the youth and the elderly together.

SAPS Tongaat was also awarded a trophy for leading in a cooking competition.

The Cluster Commander Major General Lucas Ngobeni addressed pupils and spoke to them about the dangers of drugs and the importance of education.

He invited the community to attend a crime awareness initiative, which will address children and women abuse.

The campaign will take place in Verulam on July 28.

The event proved to be an auspicious occasion and was filled with entertainment, food and youth celebrating “youth empowerment”.

This initiative was well received by the community of Durban North. - Supplied.
