THE Verulam Astro Soccer Tournament was won by Railways FC who defeated Verulam SAP in the final at the weekend.
The tournament which was contested by 24 teams from Verulam, Tongaat, Phoenix and Durban culminated in a tough 2-0 win by Railways FC from Tongaat.
Verulam Astro Soccer owner, Zubair Ishmail said the final was a fitting end for the tourney as both teams attacked and pressed their opponents hard for victory.
"Railways and Verulam SAP fought hard but Railways scored in each half to win the tournament," said Ishmail. "All the teams played well and they put on an excellent show of football."
The winners, Railways FC walked away with R4000 while Verulam SAP won R1000.
Nivans Angels finished in third place.
"We want to thank the sponsors, Sumtas Trucking, all the teams that participated and supporters for making the tournament a success," said Ishmail.
"We hope many more tournaments like these will take place and grow in the future to help develop the sport in our community."
