Theft of motor vehicle: Tongaat

Be on the lookout for a white 1996 model Isuzu bakkie with registration NJ 23184. The vehicle was stolen from Edmundsberry Road in Tongaat during the early parts of Wednesday morning.

The bakkie had metal rails welded to the sides.

Motor vehicle collision: Verulam

At approximately 7.30am on Wednesday 12 October members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the Canelands intersection in Verulam after receiving reports of a motor vehicle collision.

Upon arrival three vehicles, a Toyota Corolla, a Nissan Livina and a Toyota Venture, were found to have been involved in the collision at the intersection.

The occupants of all three vehicles were not injured.

Repeat offender arrested: Verulam

At approximately 9.20am on Thursday 13 October members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to a home in Jasmine Place in Temple Valley, Verulam after receiving reports of a theft in progress.

Upon arrival it was established that a lone suspect had gained entry into the property and was in the process of removing a car cover to break into the vehicle when he was spotted by the homeowner.

The woman started to scream for help and banged on the window causing it to break when the suspect fled.

The victim provided Reaction Unit officers with a clothing description of the suspect and while on patrol he was seen fleeing towards Valley View Drive.

Officers pursued and arrested the suspect. He was positively identified by the homeowner as the person who was attempting to break into her vehicle.

The suspect had been arrested by officers on two previous occasions for house break-ins.

In one incident he was shot after he attempted to stab an officer during a break-in at a home in Everest Heights. He was sentenced to a year in prison and upon his release he was once again arrested in Missionlands for breaking into another home. He has since been released on parole.

Attempted hijacking: Verulam

At approximately 3.40pm on Thursday 13 October members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Mission Road in Missionlands, Verulam after receiving reports of a hijacking in progress.

Several Reaction Unit officers responded to the scene and upon arrival established that two suspects attempted to hijack a 54-year-old man of his Toyota Yaris.

The suspects tried to force the victim into the boot, however he resisted.

Both suspects then got into the vehicle and while attempting to reverse out of the property they knocked into the driveway gate. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled into a bush.

Officers and members of the SAPS K9 Unit conducted an extensive search of the area, however, no arrests were made.

Pupil knocked down: Verulam

A 15-year-old pupil from Verulam Secondary School suffered a broken leg after he was run over by a minibus taxi in Redcliffe on Friday afternoon.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene between Oaklands and Redcliffe after a passing motorist, who witnessed the accident, reported it.

Upon arrival officers found the injured male lying on the roadside. He sustained injuries to his left leg, pelvis and lower abdomen.

According to the taxi driver, the pupil suddenly walked into his path of travel while he was driving towards the Verulam CBD. - Supplied.
