Quad bike collides into vehicle: Verulam

At approximately 11.30am on 31 December 2016 members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were dispatched to the corner of Lotus Road and Purtunia Drive in Temple Valley after receiving reports of a quad bike colliding into a light motor vehicle.

Upon arrival it was established that the Toyota Tazz was travelling up Lotus Road when the quad bike failed to stop at the stop street and collided into it.

The occupants of the Toyota Tazz and the biker were not injured.

One killed in head-on collision: Ndwedwe

One person was killed and 12 injured following a head-on collision on Ndwedwe Road on New Year’s Day.

At approximately 1.35pm members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving several calls from passing motorists requesting assistance for the injured.

Upon arrival an Opel Corsa bakkie and a Toyota Quantum were found to have collided head-on.

The driver of the Opel Corsa bakkie was killed in the collision. The jaws of life had to be used to remove his body from the mangled wreck.

Twelve occupants of the Toyota Quantum taxi suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were treated on scene before being transported to hospital.

It is alleged that both vehicles were travelling­ in opposite directions when they collided into each other.

The taxi then overturned several times ejecting several of the occupants in the process.

The occupants of the Toyota Quantum consisted of family and friends who had hired the taxi to transport them to the beach for New Year celebrations

Hijacking and armed robbery: Verulam

On Thursday 5 January members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Waterloo in Verulam after receiving reports of a hijacking.

Upon arrival it was established that two armed men hijacked a member of public for his white Toyota Corolla Professional with registration NJ 72898.

While Reaction officers were searching for the vehicle they were flagged down by an individual on Old Inanda Road stating that two suspects in the same vehicle had held him at gun point and robbed him of his cellphone and cash.

The suspects then sped off in the direction of Zwelisha.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area however no arrests were made

Couple assaulted and robbed: Verulam

A Chatsworth couple were assaulted and robbed by two suspects on the Old Tongaat Road near Verulam after they had parked in an isolated area to have lunch.

At approximately 3.31pm on Thursday 5 January the couple stopped a Rusa ambulance near Todd Street in Verulam requesting medical assistance.

The 50-year-old male victim was bleeding profusely from a cut to his face while his 49-year-old wife suffered an injury to her leg.

The couple explained that they had attended a funeral in Verulam and thereafter decided to visit family in Tongaat.

While on route they stopped on the road side near a sugar-cane plantation and decided to have lunch, which they packed from home.

Two suspects then approached the couple and demanded valuables from them.

One suspect was armed with a firearm while his accomplice was in possession of a stick which he used to beat the 50-year-old male victim.

The female victim was dragged out of the vehicle and forced to hand over her valuables.

The suspects then fled the scene with the victims cellphones, cash, jewellery and lunch. The couple then drove to Verulam were they sought assistance from the passing Rusa ambulance.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa patrolled the area in search of the suspects however they still remain at large.
