SAFA Tongaat held its annual awards presentation at Hot Shots Entertainment Centre recently to acknowledge the achievements of teams and individuals over the season.

President of SAFA Tongaat Kuga Padayachee said while the presentation marked the end of football for 2015, it also means supporters can look forward to a new season of competition and competitiveness.

"The 2015 season was completed successfully and all the teams put on a good show of talent and passion for the game," said Padayachee.

"We did have some challenges with the late start to the season and last minute compliance with teams regarding registration, but it has been a terrific year for football in our community."

Padayachee commended the coaches and teams for the vast talent that has been shown during the season and the entertaining brand of football which has attracted good support from the community.

“The leagues were very strong and competitive game in and game out," said Padayachee.

"In the premier league we had goals aplenty and games were averaging around 2-3 goals a game. The players are playing at their best and it shows that they are pushing themselves to improve."

Padayachee said an added incentive for the players is that SAB league teams and ABC Patrice Motsepe League team UThongathi are scouting among these teams for talent. "This has inspired the players to play at higher levels to gain ascendency into higher leagues," said Padayachee.

The guest speakers were former SAFA Tongaat president Eddy Khan and Checkout Group representative Smiley Govender. Manager of Maidstone FC Moolie Govender was also awarded the presidential award for management excellence and commitment to the sport.

Padayachee also thanked the supporters and sponsors for their loyal support over the season.

“We are looking forward to the ongoing support from the corporate houses in Tongaat and a major thanks to our anchor sponsor the Checkout Group and Ballito Tyre Track for sponsoring the Futsal senior league," said Padayachee.

Padayachee also thanked Johnny Nair for sponsoring the venue. The main season results were as follows: SAFA Tongaat Checkout Group Premier League champion: All Stars FC, SAFA Tongaat Checkout Group Division 1 champion: Barcelona United, SAFA Tongaat Ballito Tyre Track Futsal League champion: Calypso Sporting. On 31 January the SAFA Tongaat annual congress will be at at Watson Park at SAFA headquarters at 1pm.
