POLICE have launched a manhunt for the suspects who assaulted a Chatsworth resident, Kuben Pather (33), in Springfield in Umgeni Road last Saturday night.

A video clip that went viral on social media shows a group of men punching and kicking Pather outside a petrol service station.

The three accused were identified as Mikyle Nundlall, Renaithen Padayachee and Canton Chetty all from Verulam.

However, they claim to have had no part in the assault and no charges have brought against them as yet.

According to media reports one of the accused came forward and denied any involvement in the assault incident.

A Durban newspaper reported on Wednesday that the Nundlall family said the accused could not have been part of the group as he was playing indoor soccer at home at the time of the assault.

According to media reports the other two accused also denied that they were involved in the assault.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said: “The complainant alleged that last Saturday night he was driving along Umgeni Road when he noticed a vehicle speeding behind him.

“He then stopped and jumped out of his vehicle and was approached by a group of people who assaulted him. A case of common assault was opened at Syndenham police station for investigation. No arrests have been made at his stage.”
