A VERULAM NPO specialising in skills development for the youth in the area was awarded with a prize at the film workshop hosted by Grace Family Church in Umhlanga recently.

Ebukhosini Forty3Forty was among other NPOs from Durban attending the workshop.

The aim of the workshop was to equip organisations with skills to produce their own videos and tell stories of the people and of the organisation.

The director and writer of the film Valen Govender attended the workshop on behalf of the organisation.

Govender took the third prize at the event.

The film is called Ayanda, the Beginning and it is a short film written and directed by Govender.

Govender used a cellphone and selfie stick in order to film the video and actors in the film are from the organisation and from the community around Verulam.

Govender said in a statement that the other reason for entering the festival was to inspire youngsters in the community to pursue their passion for video and cinema and to show them that nothing is impossible if they have the right attitude.
