Stay safe this festive season

2015-12-17 06:00

TONGAAT SAPS have warned that they will be enforcing a zero tolerance approach in the area over the festive season.

Communications officer Warrant Officer Manisha Maharaj-Marie said police will be holding cordon and search projects, road blocks and stop and searches constantly.

"We are asking the community to stay safe and obey the law while ensuring they remain vigilant about their safety, belongings and their children's whereabouts at all times," said Maharaj-Marie.

She offered the following tips and advice for the festive season:

* Have a sober driver.

* Always ensure children are not left unattended at the beaches, park and shopping centers.

* Avoid drawing large amounts of cash alone and be cautious of who you ask for assistance at the ATM. There are security guards and bank personnel who can be asked for assistance if you have any problems.

* Do not engage in unruly behaviour, or pick unnecessary arguments.

* Do not engage in drag racing.

* Remember you do not need to wait 24 hours to report a person missing.
