A REACTION Unit officer was attacked by eight drug users while searching for a suspect in the Verulam CBD on Tuesday.

The officer, Kieran Ramjogi, was pursuing a suspect through the Verulam CBD when he noticed him entering a derelict house situated in the Verulam bus rank.

The officer entered the abandoned building in search of the suspect when he was confronted by eight men who were in the process of smoking whoonga and dagga.

“The officer called for backup when all eight suspects attacked him. Several officers were dispatched to the distress call while Ramjogi had to fight off the suspects. When the suspects realised that backup officers had arrived they fled the building,” said a Reaction Unit spokesperson.

“Officers managed to apprehend two suspects who were dealt with accordingly.”

During the altercation Ramjogi was bitten on his right arm by one of the suspects in an attempt to escape. The officer, however held on to the suspect until back up arrived.
