TONGAAT Secondary School held a glittering annual speech and awards day at the SVET Temple Hall recently.

Top pupil Tivanna Chellan who achieved eight distinctions was the Dux and also received the special Principal’s Award for leadership.

This was followed by Salesh Harrysharan and Jerolin Naidoo who achieved six distinctions and one ‘B’ each. Kierra Moodley attained five As and two B symbols. Tivanna and Kierra have been accepted to study medicine. Jerolin will be studying bio-chemistry and genetics at UKZN while Salesh will study IT Engineering at UKZN.

In his address, principal Mr RH Singh heaped praise on the Class of 2016 having produced a 90% pass rate. He added that in the last four years their pass rate was between 90 and 93%.

“This year we are targeting the magical 100 % pass rate,” he said.

He thanked all teachers and pupils for their dedication, commitment and hard work which resulted in these pleasing results.

The circuit manager, Mr SA Chetty also praised the school on its consistent performance over the last six years and attributed the school’s success to the good leadership of the principal, the management team and to the very hard-working staff for their pursuit of educational excellence.

The guest of honour, editor of a daily newspaper, Yogas Nair urged pupils not to pursue the ‘popular’ degrees or vocations, but do what your heart desires and what you love. - Supplied.
