Tonver gets set for mini games

2016-10-20 06:00

PUPILS, aged between eight and 11 years old, are expected to participate in various codes of sports in the Tonver mini games to be held at Tongaat Outspan Grounds and Verulam Recreational Grounds respectively on 22 October.

The pupils from Grade 1 to 3 will participate in soccer and netball. Boys and girls aged 11 years old will participate in chess and mini volleyball games set to take place in Tongaat Outspan Grounds and Verulam Recreational Grounds respectively.

Tonver president Guru Ramcharan said: “This is an opportunity for foundation phase pupils to showcase their skills in the various codes.

“The intention of these development games is to, amongst others, develop a love for sport and the outdoors, physical fitness, discipline and sportsmanship while participating in organised sport. The mini games are based on the same principle as the Tonver Games fwhere schools participate in groups with the top two proceeding to the semi-finals.

“The interest, enthusiasm and passion for participation is perhaps the best outcome of these games. It is hoped that this positive attitude will prevail in pupils throughout their lives in sports as it is such an integral part of development.

“Schools are requested to finalise their participation and have all documents in order to participate. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend as this is the first formal participation of our young and budding stars of the future,” he said. - Supplied.
