TPAC runners qualify for Comrades Marathon

THREE runners from the Tongaat Panthers Athletic Club battled the scorching heat on Sunday to complete the Nosa Hillcrest Marathon and qualify for the 2016 Comrades Marathon.

The trio were Naren Rajkumar, Shyam Naidoo and Nickie Pillai.

More club members will be taking part in the next qualifier this weekend - the Maritzburg Marathon.

While some runners took part in Hillcrest Marathon, club training went ahead from Victoria Primary School as normal.

Members enjoyed the spirit of Valentine’s Day and headed towards Westbrook beach and participated in the 20km, 15km 12km and 10km training run/walk.

At the finish they were treated to a Valentine’s breakfast and presented with a gift.

The fourth leg of the TPAC Thinny’s League Challenge also takes place on Sunday.

Weekends results:

In the Hillcrest Marathon: Naren­ Rajkumar 4.28, Shyam Naidoo 4.43 and Nickie Pillai 4.56. In the 21.1km: Sajida Abdool 1.56.59.

In the club’s 20km run: Devan Reddy 2.09, Andile 2.27 and Behr 2.50. In the club’s 15km run: Pushpa Pillay 1.55, Brandon Naidoo 1.59, Derrick Pillay 1.59, Viresh Rampurtab 2.05, Rajen Naidoo 2.09 and Bugwan Lekha 2.15.

In the club’s 12km run: Chris Naidoo 1.50, Lajeeth Maharaj 2.00, Roy Rajkumar 2.09, Kogie Naidoo 2.28 and Selvie Naidoo 2.28.

In the 10km run: Kem Maharaj 1.22 and Babes Sithaldeen 1.22.
