MANDELA Day came early to the pupils from Mbonisweni Primary School in Tongaat after an NGC called Food and Trees for Africa (FTFA)  planted trees at the school on Friday, July 7.

The function was sponsored by Cars.co.za through FTFA. Thirty trees were donated, 20 for shades and 10 for fruit.

School principal Ziphiwo Mahlobo said: “The school was identified by FTFA and this project came at the right time when the school is busy trying to level the ground which had become smaller over the years, to accommodate pupils to play freely.

“As the principal of the school and the SGB, we are very much excited about the project and will ensure that these trees are well taken care of. It was an awesome event with the pupils performing to a team of about 50 people.”

She said that the organisation decided to spend its 67 minutes prior to the actual day , that is next week, July 18.

“The NGO chose to spent their 67 minutes in July with us.
“We then decided to celebrate Mandela Day prior to July 18, because the schools will be still closing  next week,” she added.
