A GRADE 7 Trubel Primary School pupil, Kayasha Naidoo, placed 18th at the inaugural Schools Maths Challenge for Grade 7s at New West Secondary on 20 August, and won free lessons.

She competed against 240 pupils who came from various schools in the eThekwini region.

The aim of the challenge was to identify pupils who excelled in maths, thereby enriching their abilities in the subject.

The top 50 pupils will be given 10 hours of lessons at the Academy of Mathematics

New West Secondary School in Newlands West and the New West Education Trust held an inauguration for Grade 7 pupils in the eThekwini region, with more than 200 pupils participating.

Principal Guru Ramcharan said: “Kayasha has always taken the lion’s share of medals at all our year-end award functions. No doubt this will give her head start to high school maths,” he said.

Ramcharan also praised the organisation and administration of the challenge.

“Trubel Primary School was the only school from the Billy Nair Circuit to participate in the challenge,” said the principal.
