CHRISTMAS came early for a Verulam family after their 11-year-old son, Ayush Ramchurran managed to grab a heap of toys and gadgets, unavailable in South Africa, in the Nickelodeon’s Ultimate Toy Run grand finale in the U.S. recently.

Ayush was among the 12 contestants who were contesting in this year’s competition. The public voted for him and he earned many votes.

The Grade 6 pupil from Everest Heights Primary in Verulam and his family jetted off to New York in October.

His mother, Surjeetha Ramchurran (41), told the Weekly: “Ayush had a blast and a memorable run in New York. His toys were delivered to our home last week.

“As the family we are thankful and grateful to Nickelodean for giving us such a memorable and a once-in-a-life time family holiday. We want to donate other toys to the underprivileged children. He made us and the Verulam area proud of him,” she said.

Among the collection he got his hands on include drones with cameras, exclusive Fast and Furious model cars, virtual reality headsets, limited edition Xbox and PS4 consoles.

Ayush said in a press release: “The Toys R Us store was massive with a wider variety of toys than I had ever dreamed of. I think I took enough toys to last me my entire childhood. It was epic as I would never have dreamt of getting such awesome toys,” he said.

Ayush first entered the competition in May and was nominated to participate in the Toy Run competition that was held in Gateway.

Twelve children from provinces throughout South Africa won in the Gateway competition.

The competition went into the second leg and one of the requirements for Ultimate Toy Run competition was that one contestant, who got the most votes, would qualify for a trip to New York.
