THE Verulam SAPS showed support for World HIV/Aids Day by holding a motorcade through the Verulam CBD and engaging with community members on the virus on Tuesday.

Verulam SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Mark Prakasim said police wanted to do their bit to create awareness on a disease which is affecting the community. “We also wanted to commemorate those who have [died] due to the HIV/Aids and show our support for those affected by it,” said Prakasim.

Police officers stopped at three areas - the Moss Street Taxi Rank, the Verulam Bus Rank and Redcliffe - during the motorcade to speak to residents and distribute pamphlets as part of their efforts to create awareness.

Prakasim said it’s the role of all citizens to take up this fight and police are there to assist.

“We have trained counsellors at our victim friendly centre where anybody with HIV/Aids can come through anytime and seek help,” said Prakasim.
