THREE decomposed bodies of Lesotho nationals were found in the Drakensberg mountains, next to the Ramatsiliso border post last Tuesday.

The discovery was made after a person informed the border police about them. The trio were aged between 26 and 21 according to the cousin of one of the deceased. The family member was present when the bodies were retrieved from the cliffs in a valley in the mountains by a police chopper.

“The police had to use a chopper because of the terrain being inaccessible by a vehicle to collect the bodies. It is believed the bodies had been lying there for three weeks or more,” Matatiele SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said.

All men had gun shot wounds on their bodies. It is reported that the men were killed during a quarrel over stock theft.

“Stock thieves are warned to refrain from this act as it is illegal,” Motloung said.

“We also do not condone the killing of people suspected of theft, the law must take its course. Anyone who takes the law into their own hands will also face the full might of the law.”
