East Griqualand team rides well

2015-05-15 06:00

HORSE riders from the East Griqualand area took part in the Tri Nations endurance ride from 4-6 May in Bela Bela in Limpopo.

The following riders represented KwaZulu-Natal:

Junior team: Ane van Deventer (Captain), Emma van Zyl ,Vede Schoeman.

Light weight team: Patty van Zyl, Lauren Louren.

Standard weight team: Suzie van Deventer, Corrine Bekker.

Monday was the 80km ride Ane van Deventer, Marie Botha and Lauren took part.

Ane came second at four seconds behind the winner in a time of 03:32.

Lauren won the light-weight category and Marie finished her race in a good time as well. On Wednesday the whole team participated in the 120km ride. The track was extremely sandy and the heat was unbearable. The horses took strain, but the KZN spirit was high.

The grooms were of top quality. We couldn’t have done any of this without them.

Ane completed her ride in under six hours and came in the top 10.

Lauren, Pumzile, Luthando and Patty also completed the tough course.
