Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2015-05-01 06:00

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.

Postponement of mayoral imbizo

The mayoral imbizo, scheduled for 29 April, has been postponed until further notice.

The municipality had to postpone it because the mayor has to honour another government commitment scheduled for the same day.

The office of the mayor will arrange another date for the imbizo that will be communicated to the community. We apologise for the inconvenience. Rest assured the mayoral imbizo will take place soon and we urge the people of Kokstad to be ready to come when the new date is announced.

Xenophobic attacks

April is Freedom Month in South Africa and on Monday 27 April the country will celebrate 21 years of democracy. Sadly, as we about to celebrate Freedom Day we are also seeing a dark cloud hanging over South Africa due to xenophobic attacks in the country. These acts don’t not only affect humanity, but the economy as well. I thank the people of Kokstad for not doing what is happening in Durban and other parts of the country.

The municipality applauds you for that and we urge you to treat our African brothers with courtesy. Killing another African is barbaric and South Africa is known for peace and stability. Let us honour the legacy of Mandela.

We are all Africans and need one another. Our struggle heroes found a second home in many African countries during apartheid therefore as the Greater Kokstad Municipality we condemn any form of violence against foreign nationals and urge the law to be harsh on the perpetrators of violence.

I end by urging the community to be patient, especially those driving to Bhongweni as we attend to the state of the road after the bridge on your way to Bhongweni. Your patience will assist us to complete the road immediately and we hope that by Friday the road will be complete. Inkosi inibusise
