INTSIKENI police received praise from the family of a deceased woman in Mncwaba village near Umzimkhulu. This is after they worked tirelessly to apprehend suspects in a murder case. It is reported that the body of a 67-year-old woman was found at Mncwaba village.

Alice Ntombencane Dlamini was found dead inside her bedroom on 28 May. She was allegedly assaulted and strangled with an electric cord. The motive behind her murder is unknown at this stage. The suspects will be charged with murder and will appear at Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court soon.

The incident comes not long after a Sister Getrud Tiefenbacher of Sacred Heart Convent in Ixopo was found murdered in her room. She had also been strangled with an electric cord. Her murdered prompted widespread condemnation from society.

Police embarked on an intelligence driven operation following up on an investigation into the murder and arrested three suspects aged between 25 and 40. To shock of the community it was found that one of the suspects is the deceased’s daughter-in-law.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised Intsikeni police for their dedication in thoroughly investigating the case which led to the apprehension of the suspects. “We hope that the killers will be effectively convicted and receive a harsh sentence for killing an old woman in a brutal manner inside her home,” she said. - Supplied.
