WARM greetings to Umzimkhulu citizens. Once more, Umzimkhulu municipality continues to deliver on electrification projects. The council of Umzimkhulu municipality has resolved to accelerate the reduction of electricity backlog.

They have decided to prioritise the areas which do not have electricity in Umzimkhulu. Furthermore, Umzimkhulu will be doing the pre-engineering as well as the designs which will eventually enable them to access electricity. Ward 1 is one of the wards which have been chosen to benefit on the programme.

The municipal leadership was there to announce the programme and people have shown keen interest to the programme.

The council of Umzimkhulu municipality has started a program of taking the council to the people. Gugwini area (ward 14) was the most fortunate area to be the first community to tastethe council seating live.

The Mayor’sbudget speech was presented to the council whilst the community members were observing the proceedings of the council. Though council meetings forbid the community to participate in the process, the mayor started his introductory remarks by mentioning the progress made in the area in terms of service delivery. He went on dealing with some challenges of service delivery such as water and road issues.

Water is really an impasse towards attainment of better life for all. Hence the district municipality is doing everything to address the challenge. The mayor announced the plan in which the district municipality is working on. They anticipate that the advert will be out before end June to finalise issues of reticulation.

The bulk supply project is on progress since the infrastructure has been connected to reservoirs just awaiting the reticulation to take place. The internal roads at Eddressini village will be attended to through the maintenance program because the construction of the road will be done in 2016/2017.

Whilst the municipality is still trying to get funding for the project, it becomes important to have something done immediately to rescue the motorists from travelling in a road which is in a state of dilapidation.

Thank you
