NASIPHI Sobahle, the reigning Miss Africa Tri-state thanked the Greater Kokstad Municipality Mayor Nosisa Jojozi and people of Kokstad at her homecoming event last Friday at the Kokstad Town Hall.

“I am honoured and humbled by the reception and warmth I received from the people of Kokstad. I really appreciate everyone who contributed in organising this day, especially the municipality, and I hope to give back to the community,” she said.

Jojozi said it was important that Sobahle’s homecoming event happened at a time when the country is gripped by xenophobic violence.

“This is the best time to indicate how senseless this xenophobia is. We have Nasiphi, who is from Kokstad, but who lives in a foreign country, America. Now how would we have felt if she had been killed in that country simply because she was not from there?”

“Now that our Nasiphi is back home, healthy and safe, let us treat our foreigners with warm hearts, people of South Africa.

“I also want to say to the ratepayers of Kokstad, this is your child, our municipality contributed in her education so she is proof that your money went to good use,” she said.

Sobahle said she grew up a very shy child.

“I had to conquer my shyness in order to realise my dreams and I am proud to say that I was brought up by a single mother - she has been my pillar of strength.”
