On Saturday, 18 April the first team netball players travelled to Maclear for the Maclear Netball Festival. St. Monica’s first team played against Umtata, Maclear and Barkly first teams. Although we did not win any matches, the girls enjoyed the games and gained much-needed experience and learnt a great deal from the high standard of netball displayed.

A special thanks to our school for giving us this opportunity to attend the festival. - Mrs V. Magebede.

Matric farewell

On Friday, 17 April St Monica’s hosted an Oscar Night and the Grade 12 pupils looked dazzling. The evening began with an opening prayer and welcome by Mr Muravu and Mrs Letuka, who wished that God’s many blessings be bestowed upon our Grade 12s as they embark on their last leg of their schooling journey.

The evening was dedicated to Grade 12 pupils. The hosts, Lerato Moshoeshoe and Sikhonza Mgangato, ensured that guests were entertained throughout the evening. Grade 11 pupils presented the awards to the Grade 12 pupils.

A wonderful tribute was composed and presented by Uma Jakalase and Nontlatla Zitha and this was dedicated to the Grade 12 pupils who have been an excellent example to others.

A medley of songs was presented by a group of Grade 11 girls and an amazing sense of camaraderie prevailed as the Grade 12s joined in the singing.

The heartwarming atmosphere continued as awe-inspiring and speeches were given by Mr Pretorius, the head boy and head girl. The evening was a resounding success with everyone enjoying each other’s company around a sumptuous meal. The evening ended with dancing.

The following people ensured that the farewell was succesful:

•Mrs Rene Kok, Mrs Doreen Faro, Ms Belinda Rooi,, Mrs Shirley Kotze, Mrs Desiree Kotze - these individuals provided us with our excellent meal.

•Sponsors - Sondela, Mrs Myburg and Modern Butchery.

•The dedication and hard work of the Grade 11 pupils and the matric farewell committee.

•We thank Mr Bunty Viviers for taking the photographs and the Roman Catholic Church for the use of their hall.

•Thanks also to Bellz Décor for the amazing décor and to all who contributed in any way to the farewell.

Above all we give thanks, glory and praise to our Almighty God for giving us the privilege to teach such wonderful pupils and for giving us the opportunity of celebrating their achievements.

We also thank the parents for the love and care they provide for their children and for going the extra mile to ensure that they looked so beautiful. - Ms A. Hulley
