‘Best in sport’ to be awarded

PEOPLE who have done well in developing sport in Harry Gwala District will be awarded at an awards ceremony at Umzimkhulu College tomorrow.

According to Harry Gwala District Sport Confederation president, John Motsa, the event is held to honour those who have developed and played a big role in sport in Harry Gwala.

“Sport has helped many young people to stay away from using drugs. There are people who help youngsters to play sport and we will recognise them at the awards,” said Motsa.

KZN Sport Confederation president, Thami Mchunu, officials from Department of Sport and Recreation, Harry Gwala District Municipality councillors and players in various sport codes will attend the event.

Awards will include best coach of the year, team of the year, best sport administrator of the year, sport confederation of the year, best woman in sport, best person with a disability, school of the year, journalist of the year and best supporter of the year.

Motsa said the best municipality sport officer of the year will also be awarded.

He said the late Kokstad bodybuilder Vusi “Bulldozer” Njisane, is to be posthumously awarded for representing Kokstad in many bodybuilding competitions. “Njisane’s family will accept his award,” said Motsa.
