MEMBERS of the Council of Churches began a walk on Monday at Khoopa Junction outside Matatiele praying for road safety ahead of the Easter weekend.

The prayer ended at the Matatiele Local Municipality hall.

Last Thursday SANDF, SAPS and K9 unit from Mthatha partnered in an operation at Ongelesnek Junction, 10km outside Matatiele.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Raphael Motloung said a six-hour roadblock yielded good results in a bid to try to curb accidents.

“Four drivers were caught for driving without licences, four vehicles were caught without a valid licence disc, three vehicles were caught for overloading and three passengers, between the ages of 20 and 28, were arrested for possession of dagga,” said Raphael.

Raphael said roadblocks will continue throughout the long weekend. - Supplied.
