THE J.J Mhlongo Community Hall, built by the Greater Kokstad Municipality many years ago, has become a children’s playground after being vandalised.
When it opened it was used for social events, meetings and also served as a voting station.
When the Fever went there the windows, toilets and doors were broken, the surrounding fence had been vandalised and the gate has been removed.

A community member, who wished to remain anonymous for safety reasons, said the hall is vandalised almost every night.
“During the day we don’t see anyone destroying it, but when we wake up in the morning more windows and doors are missing.”

Greater Kokstad Municipality spokesperson Sabelo Ncwane said the hall will be repaired soon.
“The municipality is aware of the gross vandalism of the hall. We ask community members to protect municipal property.”
