PREPARATIONS are at an advanced stage for the second annual GKM DJ Festival to take place on October 28 where security will be tight said the organising team.

A pre-party will be held at Colors Café on October 27, where DJ Kabila, DJ Yase, Brikzit, DJ Leera will provide the entertainment and Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter, Mafa Bavuma will emcee.

The main event is at the Oval cricket grounds and DJ Tira, Heavy K, Euphonic, DJ Mbuso and Mobi Dixon will perform. Emcee is Phindile Gwala and Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter, KC.

On October 29 there will be the “Sunday Chill” at Kweenoa Lounge and Grill and Leera, Mzet, Yann, Sonik Soul will perform.
One of the organisers, Lundi Mtatambi, said local artists will be given an opportunity to share the stage with national artists throughout the weekend.

He said the purpose of the event is to make sure that the people of Kokstad do not have to go to big cities to have fun.
“We want people to have fun in Kokstad and spend their money in Kokstad instead of going to big cities. The money collected from ticket sales will be donated to charity homes in Kokstad and to the education of a matric pupil who has no money to further his tertiary studies next year,” said Mtatambi.

Patuxolo Mgumane, Willy Mgcina, and Zizipho Nogwaza from the organising team confirmed that 40% of tickets have already been sold.
Last year people who live next to the Oval said they were not told about the event and complained about the noise., but Mgcina said consultations are under way to make everyone comfortable regarding the event.

“People from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Port Elizabeth and across the country are expected to come in numbers,” said Mgcina.
