A FAMILY of 10 unemployed members living in a one-room mud house in Gqumeni village outside Bulwer were told they would be getting a RDP house that will be built soon by the Department of Human Settlements for them. Chairperson of Operation Sukuma Sakhe in Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality, Basil Ntshiza, visited the family on August 21.

Speaking to Fever Ntshiza said the municipality is aware of the plight of the family and the department is in the process of helping them with a proper house.

“When I visited the family the conditions were terrible because there was no food.”
Fever
published the story about the family on August 18 after DA members campaigned in the village and saw their poor living condition.

The family depend on the social grant of Zakhe Dlamini (85) and his wife Flora (75), both of whom are unable to walk because of leg problems.
Ntshiza said mattresses and blankets have been given to the family and when the house is complete, the municipality will make sure that the family gets a second house.
