AT a young empowerment event in Highflats on August 3 young people were encouraged to start businesses and co-ops in order to fight poverty and contribute to economic growth.

The event was attended by Inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza from the KZN House of Traditional Leaders and government officials from various departments.

Chiliza told the young people to “grab” the opportunities offered to them to better their lives and those of the country.
“I want young people to contribute to the growth of the local economy.”

Harry Mchunu from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs said government has many programmes that are created to help young people. - Supplied.
