AT a media briefing of mid-term progress by Greater Kokstad Municipality Mayor, Bheki Mtolo, said the municipality is financially stable after previous reports that it had been broke for the past few years surfaced.

He said as of January 31, finances are showing resilience. “I want to make sure that GKM is one of the best performing municipalities in the country,” said Mtolo.

Mtolo took over last year after the local government elec- tions.
He said the municipality has a duty to change Kokstad by introducing infrastructural projects.

A tender for a town rehabilitation project worth R15.4 million was awarded recently and another one for a landfill site worth R3.8 million, to be built near Horseshoe, has also been awarded.

Before end of this month, the municipality is expecting Shayamoya and Ward 8 community halls to be completed.

A service provider has been appointed to upgrade Extension 7 roads, the electrification of Wansberg area has a budget of R4.5 million.
A contractor has been appointed to build the Jim Payne Sports Complex valued at R12.7 million.

“All projects are worth R55.1 million,” said Mtolo.
