GREATER Kokstad Municipality mayor, Nosisa Jojozi, was booed at a social cohesion gathering at Shayamoya in Kokstad on Sunday. The event was attended by people of Kokstad and foreign nationals.

During her speech a group of young people heckled her from the back of the marquee where the meeting was held.

Acting municipal manager Andile Velem, also programme director for the event, calmed them down to allow the mayor to continue.

During the address Jojozi called for moral regeneration among the young people of Kokstad.

“This gathering is about uniting all people of Kokstad from all cultural groups. GKM has improved many lives especially the young people.

“The Kokstad Youth Centre will open skills opportunities, and the new Bongweni Skills Centre will change many lives in Kokstad. I love young people because tomorrow the country is going to be governed by them.”

Jojozi is not returning as GKM mayor after next week’s local government elections.

Sheik Phiri from Zimbabwe, who represents foreign nationals, said Kokstad is home to many foreign nationals.

“I have lived in Kokstad for 13 years and am happy to work here. Nelson Mandela united us, let us love and care for each other,” he said.
