GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.

Extension 7 roads

The community of Extension 7 have been driving in very difficult road conditions for a long time. The municipality has been trying to resolve the issue. It is a good thing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As I speak the project is at the last stages of the supply chain process and by the end of this month there should be an appointed contractor.

I am pushing the SCM Unit to finalise every process correctly, and according to legislation, to ensure that by April the contractor is on site. As an acting accounting officer, I cannot wait to see a completion certificate handed to the contractor and a completed road handed to the community. We hope the process is completed within a reasonable time for the sake of the community.

Council has made it clear that they are not waiting for any excuse from me. I have adopted the same principle for the managers accountable to me with regards to this project. I am happy for the people of Extension 7 and I will be happier after we have introduced the contractor to the community.

Electrification of Wansberg

The mayor of Greater Kokstad Municipality Cllr B.M. Mtolo introduced the contractor that will do the electrification of Wansberg on 12 February.

They have promised the municipality they will complete the project in three months time from this week. This community has also been facing an electricity challenge for a long time and I am happy that government has delivered to the people of Wansberg.

The contractor has committed to employ 10 local people during construction, a security guard and one community liaison officer. I will urge those who are employed to make sure they learn a skill during this time because life goes on after the project.

We always urge our service providers to make sure that the skill is transferred to local people.

I thank God that no major incidents were reported to my office after the severe storm in Kokstad on Monday.

Sisonke siyaqhubeka nokuphuhlisa iKokstad.

Siyaqhuba enkosi.
