Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.

Mayoral Games in progress

Wednesday was the official start of the Mayoral Games at Riverview Stadium, will run until 16 June. The sporting codes are soccer, netball, volleyball and basketball.
To make these games competitive and attract maximum participation, we have introduced a number of prizes to be won. I urge the people of Kokstad to come out in numbers to participate and support these young athletes when they display their talent.

Youth Day celebration

As the municipality we know that a society, which does not cater for its youth, is doomed to fail. To ensure that our young men and women are empowered we have put in place infrastructure that will enable them to take a leading role in their development.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of 16 June we will officially open the Bhongweni Youth Centre, the town hall and Extension 7 hall. These facilities will assist young people when developing various aspects of their lives. The safety and well-being of these facilities are in your hands.

Sad loss of Urban de Kok

It is with profound sadness that we inform you about the death of our former colleague, Urban de Kok. He was part of GKM team for many years before resigning to pursue a career in sport. He worked as the coach of various soccer teams including Maritzburg United. May his soul find eternal peace and his family and friends find strength and fortitude to bear such a tragedy.
De Kok may be gone but his ideas will live on to inspire generations to come. He will be buried on 11 June in Kokstad. The service will be held at Kokstad Catholic Church and it will start at 10am.

Electricity theft

Electricity theft is costing Kokstad thousands of rands per year. Residents are urged to prevent and not to participate in any form of activity related to electricity theft. Electricity theft causes the overload of the network which finally leads to power cuts (load shedding). Illegal connections and exposed wires can cause serious injuries and even death. Any resident who participates in any form of electricity theft will face harsh punishment as per the newly adopted municipal by-laws.
