Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

2016-09-02 06:00

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.
First council sitting
The council of Greater Kokstad Municipality sat for the first time on Tuesday 30 August. This came after the new council took office on 16 August.
The meeting took place in council chambers in the Kokstad town hall. The main item on the agenda was the election of council committees that will assist in discharging one of its responsibilities, that of service delivery.
In welcoming the council the speaker emphasised that all councillors are elected by the community and therefore must represent the interests of the community. All committees were elected and the mayor advised council that there is no time to rest.
I also wish to convey the same message to the administration - the community needs services. Each manager must earn the salary he or she is getting from the municipality. Everyone in the municipality is ready to hit the ground running, which is what I promise the people of Kokstad on behalf of the administration I am tasked to lead for now.

Councillors and management planning
Councillors and management had an intense strategic planning session from last Thursday 25 August to Sunday 28 August. The aim was to look at how the municipality is performing and map a way forward on the strategies council will use to take this municipality forward.
The GKM mayor will communicate the resolutions of the strategic plan to the community once all the necessary arrangements has been made.
His first press conference will be about these resolutions and how he plans to implement them.

‘Like’ our Facebook page
I invite the community of Kokstad to “like” our Facebook page - Greater Kokstad Municipality. The old Facebook page, called Greater Kokstad Municipality-GKM has been blocked by the municipality for technical reasons.
We want to invite those who liked our previous page to again like this one because it will be more informative, vibrant and educative.
The municipal communication team will every day deal with issues posted by the municipality and respond accordingly.
I appeal to the community to post responsible posts only. If they are criticisms, they must be posted in the spirit of building one another.
I will also monitor the Facebook page because we have a responsibility to respond to issues and queries raised by the community. This is used to broaden and modernise our communication system with our beloved citizens.
Siyaqhuba enkosi.
