Greater Kokstad Municipality viewpoint

GREETINGS to the people of Kokstad.

16 Days of Activism against Domestic Violence

THE government has again launched the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Domestic Violence campaign. This is the time where the message is sent to the public not to engage in domestic violence. It is a well-known fact that women and children are the main victims of domestic violence be it physically or emotionally.

The minister in the Department of Women, Susan Shabangu launched the campaign in Parliament and called for dialogue on the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children where victims and perpetrators will be educated on the subject and be taught how to deal with it. As the community of Kokstad we have to pass this message on to people in all levels of the community. We call on stakeholders in Kokstad to assist government in dealing with this challenge. It has to be our daily duty not to abuse women and children. Churches, NGOs and all other forums must educate the people about domestic violence. They must also report such matters to the police so that the perpetrators are brought to book. Equally men who are abused by their partner must also report the matter - no one should remain silent.

GKM Municipal Sports Day went well

The Greater Kokstad Municipality would like thank all municipalities that participated in our sports day on Friday 18 November at the Kokstad Rugby Stadium. Municipalities that took part included GKM, Matatiele, Port St John’s, Dr Nkosazane Dlamini-Zuma and Umzimkhulu Municipality. I congratulate all the winners. I thank the leadership and administration of these municipalities for supporting the event. I know that we will have an ongoing relationship with them on other matters of governance.

I also congratulate the Greater Kokstad Municipality team for organising such an event for our staff - their dedication must not go unnoticed. The same appreciation goes to all sponsors, who ensured that all went well.

I also want to thank the Kokstad Rugby Stadium management for allowing us to use their venue. We appreciated this kind gesture.

Siyaqhuba. Enkosi.
