LAST weekend the nine King Edward athletes who were chosen for the Pietermaritzburg invitational team took part in the Menlo Park Athletics Meeting. H

They performed very well, mostly achieving places in the top three in their events. Congratulations to the following pupils for their outstanding achievements:

Kayla Harris – second in U16 girl’s shotput and discus

Kholekile Bam – second in U15 boy’s javelin

Aaron Lombard – third in U16 boy’s shotput and discus

Zhanique Sissing – second in U19 girl’s high jump

Rebecca de Burgh – second in U14 girl’s discus

Sine Matam, Lulonke Mbangeni, Carla de Wet and Ethan Duminy also participated in the meeting, performing very well and achieving all their personal goals. Well done to all the athletes.

Melville makes the bigger splash

On Thursday, 2 February, King Edward High School held its annual inter-house swimming gala. With some very competitive races in the now-sparkling municipal swimming pool, it was quite the gala to watch.

Melville was the team on fire, winning the Barnard Cup for overall achievements, as well as the Spirit Cup for their enthusiasm throughout the day.

Congratulations to the victrix and victor ludorum winners:

Emma Rawlins – junior victrix ludorum (primary school)

Rueben Vos – junior victrix ludorum (primary school)

Zandri Jacobs – victrix ludorum (primary school)

Joshua Sweetnam and Tristan Phizacklea – shared victor ludorum (primary school)

Kayla Harris – junior victrix ludorum (high school)

Ethan Duminy – junior victor ludorum (high school)

Phillip du Randt – victor ludorum (high school)

The following pupils were the best in their age groups:

Mieke Jacobs (U7), Robyn du Randt (U8), Lize Vos and Caleb Sweetnam (U9), Porsché Killian (U10), Rueben Vos (U11), Zandri Jacobs and Joshua Sweetnam (U12), Tristan Phizacklea (U13), Lehan Niehaus (U14), Ethan Duminy (U15), Kayla Harris (U16) and Phillip du Randt (open). - Supplied.
