Kokstad Home Affairs officials in court

2017-04-07 06:00

KOKSTAD Home Affairs officials appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Court on Monday on charges of fraud and corruption.

Members of Hawks from Durban Commercial Crime Unit in conjunction with the Department of Home Affairs Counter Corruption & Security team apprehended six suspects aged between 30 and 63 in the Free State, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal between March 23 and 25.

“Three Home Affairs officials from the Kokstad office are among the arrested suspects. Investigations revealed that they processed more than 1 000 late registration of birth applications without following proper procedures last year,” said Hawks spokesperson, Simphiwe Mhlongo.

The three officials were released on R5 000 bail each. The other three were released on warning. The case was postponed to May 31. - Supplied.
