AT a media briefing by Kokstad Link Pharmacy founder, Liatile Ntoa, Greater Kokstad Municipality mayor Bheki Mtolo told runners to register for the Kokstad Link Pharmacy Half Marathon before August 29.

The briefing was held at the Greater Kokstad Municipality council chambers on Tuesday.

The marathon was brought to Kokstad by Ntoa a few years ago and this year TV actor, Lusanda Mbane is the emcee for it.

The marathon is on September 2 starting at 6.30am at Rosewood Square.
“In 2015, the marathon started as a five-kilometre run and walk, but last year we added a 10km run, and with the support of stakeholders and the municipality we decided to add a 21.1km run this year,” said Ntoa.

She said next year she wants the marathon to grow to 42.2km in order for it to become a Comrades and
other marathon, qualifier.
“I introduced the marathon to help people lead a healthy lifestyle and to give back to the community of Kokstad.”

She said registration money will be donated to charity.

The first male and female home in the 21.1km run will receive R1 200. In the 10km they will get R550 and in the 5km will get R350. Walkers in the 5km will get vouchers.

GKM mayor Bheki Mtolo encouraged people to participate in the marathon to fight obesity and to live a healthy lifestyle.
This year, the marathon is supported by KZN Department of Sport and Recreation and sponsors.
Registration forms are available at Link Crystal Pharmacy, Link People’s Choice Pharmacy and East Griqualand Pharmacy. Registration for 5km run/walk is R30, the 10km run is R50 and the 21.1km run is R100.
