FARMERS walked away with loads of cash at a livestock auction at kwaMzongwana village in Matatiele last Wednesday.
The six-year auction series came at a time of extreme water shortage, but the cattle didn’t show any signs of being affected by this.

The auction was organised by Conservation South Africa’s (CSA) Meat Naturally Initiative, in partnership with NGO Environmental and Rural Solutions under the Umzimvubu catchment partnership in Matatiele to boost the local economy.
Environmental and Rural Solutions manager Nicky McLeod said the auction is aimed to improve rural economy and open doors for farmers to market their stock.

“About 80 cattle were sold during the auction. Farmers walked away with big cash, others with R36 000, the total money gained was R480 000. The money is for stock owners. Our duty as the organisation is to facilitate graze and water security. We are in partnership with Conservation South Africa to restore dignity of rural farming.”

More than 80 households have benefited since the beginning of stock auction six years ago.

At the auction farmers shared tips on how to grow stock and improve agriculture.
