Local pastor condemns xenophobia

2017-03-10 06:02

A KOKSTAD pastor and a TV presenter Sheik Phiri condemns the recent attacks on fellow Africans in the country and is calling for peace and tolerance in South African communities.

In Gauteng foreign-owned shops have been looted and people accused foreigners of taking their jobs and businesses. They also accused them of selling drugs and prostitution.
Phiri is a motivational speaker and a philanthropist in Kokstad. He currently presents the Sheik Phiri Show which airs on ITV station (channel 347 on DStv) every Sunday.

He said the borders of Africa are man-made and people must love each other no matter which country they come from.
“If people are suspecting foreigners of selling drugs they must report it to the police and not cause chaos in communities.”
“The country is facing a problem with young people who are using a drug called nyaope and prostitution is increasing in townships. At the border gates there is tight security whereby foreigners are searched before entering in the country, but I believe that all of them should not be treated like suspects.

“South Africans are treated well in other countries and they even own businesses.”
“These attacks must come to an end because former president Nelson Mandela married an African woman from Mozambique which shows that we must unite.”

The pastor said people are one before God so we should love each other regardless of where we come from. He said people must go back to their roots and promote the spirit of ubuntu.
