Man sentenced for child rape

2017-10-06 06:00

ON September 18, a 56-year-old man was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Kokstad Regional Court for raping a seven-year-old girl in February 2011.

The child was raped when she went to collect firewood with friends at about 2pm in Kokstad.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Dumisani Ncongo said the man grabbed the little girl, who was walking between her friends, and raped her next to a tree.

A few days after the incident the girl reported it to a neighbour and her mother, and the police were informed and a docket was opened.
“The docket was transferred to Kokstad Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and the suspect was arrested just days after the crime,” said Ncongo.

After several court appearances the man was found guilty of rape, and sentenced.
