Matat viewpoint

2017-03-24 06:02

GREETINGS dear readers.

It is my pleasure to once again welcome you to the Matatiele Local Municipality viewpoint. This is part of our strategy to ensure that you are well informed of our recent accomplishments at your respective areas.

We continue to encourage you to participate actively in this democratic processes.

Intergovernmental relations

The basis for intergovernmental relations is the manner in which government is structured. The Constitution provides three spheres of government that are distinct and independent, yet interdependent.

While their independence requires that they exercise their powers and functions without interference, their interdependence requires that they rely on each other to exercise certain powers and functions.

This was on display on Monday as government departments within Matatiele Local Municipality jurisdiction and the municipal management gathered at the Matatiele town hall for the Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Forum meeting.

The purpose of this sitting emanates from the IGR Framework Act (No. 13 of 2005), which makes provision for the integration of programmes by sector departments and the municipality to avoid duplication of government programmes.

It is through these meetings that members share their challenges with the concerned departments.

This levels the ground for a speedy intervention where needed. Highlights and achievements shared at this platform are communicated to the public.

One such highlight was the meeting between the Department of Education, Home Affairs and Social Development, this was held to address the issue of pupils without identity documents.

The municipality, through the infrastructure services department is implementing major projects geared towards the upliftment of the socioeconomic well-being of the people of Matatiele Local Municipality.

Some of the projects to look forward to include Kamorathaba and Manase access roads in Ward 3, Soloane access road in Ward 24, Sijoka access road in Ward 10, Mazizini-Zazingeni access road in Ward 4, Khauoe access road in Ward 25 and Sandfontein access road in Ward 26.

In our mission to electrify the villages of Matatiele, and we are happy to announce that the municipality is connecting more than 1 900 households in the Mzongwana and Makhoba areas. At the same time, solar systems are being installed in Lekhalong village in Ward 14.

Matatiele residents cautioned

Once again dear reader, it has come to our attention that there is a group of people or a person who claims to be recruiting potential employees for the municipality at a fee.

I would like caution you about falling for such scams.

As you may be aware, the municipality advertises its vacancies in local newspapers, notice boards and on the municipal website and does not make use of any middleman.

We appeal to you to give us feedback and input via our Facebook page and other platforms.
