Matat Viewpoint

2017-04-21 06:00

DEAR reader, welcome once again to our weekly update column. We have now wrapped up the third quarter of our financial year.

As the Matatiele Local Municipality we have continued to record tangible success in our quest to make the lives of the people of sweet Matat, sweet.

As we are in the Easter weekend, let me wish all citizens tranquility and joyfulness as we commemorate Easter. Christians will be celebrating the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Jews will mark the festival of the Passover and Hindus fast during this religious period. May safety and peace prevail throughout this Easter season.

As we tap into the supernatural power, let us all pray for harmony, unity and prosperity in our beautiful country. Pray for success and an end to poverty and suffering among our people.

IDP/budget outreach week

In accordance to Section 29 (i) and (ii) of the Local Government Municipal Systems Act, (Act 32 of 2000), the Municipality embarked on IDP/Budget Community Outreach for the 2017/2018 financial year from April 10 to 13. The outreach targeted all 26 wards of Matatiele. On behalf of the Matatiele Local Municipality Council I extend a word of gratitude to all citizens of Matatiele for coming out in numbers to participate in decisions and government processes that affect them. The outreach programme was mainly aimed at, presenting to the public, the draft budget for 2017/2018 financial year. Planned projects and programmes for the next financial year were also shared with communities.   Addressing the community of Ward 10 at Lunda community hall, the mayor, Cllr Momelezi Mbedla urged the public to work with their ward councillors on issues of service delivery.

“We don’t want to be a government or municipality that makes decisions without community participation and comment,” he said.

For great Easter celebrations, let us be vigilant on the road and travel safely so that we all arrive alive. Remember the “do not drink and drive” motto.

Remember you can touch base with us via our Facebook page and other platforms.

We are a destination of choice and excellence.
